Purchasing farmland is one of our company’s primary fields of activity. Farmland also comprises grassland. In addition, LignaMets OÜ handles the management of abandoned farmland and reconstructing land improvement objects, as the result of which farmland can be leased to producers in Estonia. Green energy
Our company has been investing in green energy in Estonia since 2017, thus taking its first steps toward a caring and sustainable future. Today, our 10 solar farms produce renewable energy for Estonia with the total production capacity of green energy being 4.1 megawatts. Additionally, we have contributed to the development of Aulepa’s 48-megawatt wind farm with our 5 immovables. This is one of the largest green energy production units of Enefit Green.
The goal of LignaMetsOÜ in this environmentally friendly energy sector is to reach Power Purchase Agreements which means the direct sale of electricity in order to offer renewable energy at a more affordable price to factory owners, real estate developers, land- or even homeowners. With that goal in mind, our company has already initiated and will be initiating several projects around Tartu.
Maximising forests’ value
Our company, in cooperation with scientists from the Estonian University of Life Sciences, is creating test areas of chaga, which is known as a medicinal fungus, in Estonian forests and is continuously researching the content of bioactive substances in different species of chaga. Since the outcomes of the research have been positive so far, in 2022 we opened a mushroom laboratory in Tartu where forest owners in Estonia have the opportunity to purchase wooden dowels of chaga, the most powerful antioxidant with the best properties, in order to use them to increase the value of their forest and earn income.
In additional to medicinal fungi, each land- and forest owner can buy logs of black alder inoculated with the shiitake mycelium and enjoy these edible mushrooms that have been known for over a thousand years from spring until autumn. We hope to soon create our first test areas on freshly clear-cut areas where we can inoculate tree stumps with the mycelium of medicinal fungi found in Estonia’s nature.
The biodiversity of Estonia’s forests supports looking beyond the usual forest management and offers new opportunities for creating additional value in the forest.
